Tara Schyer was born and raised in Melbourne where she is still based. A practicing psychologist, her work explores relationships, seeking to express the idea of connection and the shared experience of humanity. Using predominantly acrylic, oil, metal leaf, pen and pencil, her clean lines and wide variances of colour give expression to the unique and wonderful aspects of human beings. In particular, her work examines our interrelatedness, as well as the divisions and separations within and between us.
These ideas manifest as visual metaphors in her geometric abstracts, which range from vividly colourful to boldly monochromatic. Tara has a considered and poetic approach to form, line and colour, and an acute awareness of surface qualities. Her refined works are visual distillations of her emotional and interpersonal observations.
Tara studied painting and drawing at the Melbourne Studio of Art in 2014 and Painting Techniques at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2016. She has since exhibited her work in numerous group exhibitions, including the VCA Group Exhibition (2016), Linden Postcard Show (2017), St Kevin's Art Show (2018, 2019), and a small works exhibition at Fenton and Fenton (2020). In 2024 she was a finalist in the Omnia Art Prize. She began her association with Becker Minty in 2019.
