Tara Schyer - Value Symbols 4, 2026 - Acrylic on linen - 53x43cm framed

We are all seen or unseen depending on who is looking, where we are, what we are doing – we share the world and our lives in this way. And in this way, we all have value.

I hope you can see that which is unseen, and look from the loud and shouty, to the quiet and patient, then draw back to see the whole, as a microcosm working symbiotically together, sharing their innate and individual value, representing the greater whole."

Tara Schyer is a Melbourne-based visual artist whose work explores interconnectedness and the relationships between people and the spaces they inhabit. She is interested in the harmony between connection and division, closeness and distance. Working predominantly with acrylic, oil and pencil, Tara’s geometric abstract paintings combine clean lines with a diverse and expressive palette. Her starting point is photography. She captures light and shadow in the natural world, focusing on the negative spaces to find new shapes which are not immediately apparent but essential to the whole picture. The essence of these negative spaces has been central to her work for the past decade, which remains simple, stripped back and elemental.
