Aileen Corbett is a Melbourne-based ceramic artist. Her work is largely influenced by the built environment with a nod to Brutalism. Whilst many buildings of the Brutalist era have become abandoned or derelict, or have even been bulldozed, many others have been cherished and restored. It’s in this spirit that Aileen celebrates the striking qualities of this often overlooked architecture through the overlapping geometric shapes, clean lines and textural quality of her works.

Aileen's latest series is titled There are reasons to be optimistic. For this collection she worked with a number of bold and vibrant glazes, which she says “give many reasons to be optimistic in a world that can, at times, feel burdened.” These carefully composed and lovingly crafted works offer small moments of beauty and joy during these challenging times.
