Harold David

Harold David is a multidisciplinary artist whose work moves between abstraction and figuration. His paintings are process driven, allowing materials, gesture and revision to remain visible. Rather than depicting what is seen, the work explores how experience if felt, with vulnerability, humour, belief and bodily presence recurring as central concerns. Each painting resists polish is favour of honesty, treating every mark as both personal and political.

Originally from the United States, Harold is now based in the Blue Mountains. Following a successful career in photography, where he established himself as one of Australia's premier portrait photographers, Harold turned to painting. He began his association with Becker Minty in 2020 and has presented multiple sell-out exhibitions since. He has been a finalist in the Paddington Art Prize, Fisher's Ghost Art Award and National Portrait Prize, where he won People's Choice.
