Antonia Perricone-M's work is raw, intuitive and self-assured. Her expansive, layered paintings are full of energy; recordings of time spent in deep contemplation and creative flow. She responds in a primal way to memories of family, place and personal experience, but leaves the work open-ended, inviting the viewer to respond in their own personal way. This visceral exchange between artist and viewer has become a defining quality of Antonia's highly sought after work.
For Antonia, the brush is an extension of self. She has no predetermined ideas of composition, colour or form when beginning an artwork, instead allowing the marks to come from her body. A natural rule breaker, she has developed a unique visual language that continues to evolve, continually challenging and delighting viewers.
Antonia is of Sicilian heritage, brought up in Australia and based in Sydney. She earned a Bachelor of Visual Arts from Sydney College of the Arts with 1st Class Honours in 2018. She has been a finalist in several prizes including the Paddington Art Prize (2021), Waverly Art Prize (2021), and Clyde & Co. Emerging Art Award (2018). She has had multiple solo exhibitions in Sydney and Melbourne with her works widely collected by private and corporate collections around Australia and internationally. In 2019 she presented a major performance work at Sydney Contemporary, completing a towering 6x6m painting live over the course of the fair. She began her association with Becker Minty in 2017.
