Product description

This artwork is part of Thomas Bucich's series 'Meditations on the Icarus Effect', a study into strength, self belief, and limitations, expressed through flight. Thomas asks, "did Icarus really fly too high? Was he really arrogant or overly ambitious? Or was he just supplied with inadequate equipment?"

Thomas explores winged forms and the movements of flight through subtle abstractions. He utilises bronze, known for its weight and solidity, in a delicate and dynamic way, with his sculptures appearing to defy gravity whilst remain tethered to the earth.

Thomas Bucich is a New York native now based in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. With a career spanning thirty years, his multidisciplinary practice includes drawing, painting and sculpture. His materials include stone, bronze, wood, pigment, found objects, charcoal and paint. He describes how “the innate need to create drives the plasticity in my practice and allows me to roam between the disciplines in some sort of poetic collision.”
