TASMANIAN JADE

 Tasmanian Jade comes from a short stretch of coastline near Trial Harbour on the West Coast of Tasmania. Geologically speaking the mineral should not have occurred where it did, making it even more special. Originally the material was a Serpentine, that over a long period of time was put under immense pressure & heat which changed the composition of the mineral into the Nephrite Jade that we find today.

The Jade can come in a variety of colours ranging from a pale, milky green to a bright vibrant dark green and is often found with several metal & mineral inclusions - such as black magnetite, nickel, garnet & diopside.

These pieces are created by a small local family business that collect all their Jade themselves. The material for each piece is chosen intentionally with a vison for what it is going to become before it leaves its spot nestled between the extraordinary cliff face & the roaring Indian Ocean in which it has laid for millions of years.
