Product description

Levi Hawken is an Auckland-based artist whose work reflects the world that has shaped him, from the urban subcultures of skateboarding and graffiti, to architecture and landscaping. Through sculpture and painting, Levi explores the tensions between permanence and impermanence by translating the temporary, site-specific language of street art into enduring objects.

Levi is heavily influenced by the aesthetics of Brutalism, working predominantly with concrete, glass and bronze to create complex geometrical compositions that reference the forms of the built environment. He is also inspired by the symbolism of monuments and idols across time, developing a visual language which feels both ancient and futuristic. His sculptures range from small scale editions to monumental public installations, with his work inhabiting a variety of contexts including skateparks, shopping malls, gardens, galleries and museums.
