Dappled light dances across weathered trails, silvery reflections shimmer over quiet waters, and iridescent skies glow behind towering trees. As the sun moves across the sky, and dawn turns to dusk, Mike Staniford quietly observes, recording these sublime moments in his memory and his sketchbook. Back in the studio, he draws on these field notes to create spectacular landscape paintings which go beyond representation to reflect the drama, romance and feeling of a place.
Radiance explores the relationship between light, landscape and artist. An avid traveller, Mike searches for moments of magic along Australia’s coastlines and bush lands, following the light on his quest for inspiration. He is moved by the spatial and spectral effects of light, particularly the way it transforms the landscape through changes in time, weather and season.
