We are delighted to present a solo exhibition by Liam Nunan, the second recipient of the Becker Minty Exhibition Award at the Paddington Art Prize. His show ‘Vertigo’ will run at Becker Minty from 24 September - 13 October 2026.
‘Vertigo’ draws on the story of Icarus and his fall as a symbol of human ambition, risk and self-destruction. This series of paintings explores the feelings of anxiety and dissociation that arise during our current moment of uncertainty, as well as our increasingly complex relationships with consciousness and the body.
Liam is a painter of still life, portraiture, figure and landscape. He originally trained as an actor and worked in theatre for over two decades, before turning to the visual arts in 2019. Since then he has earned widespread recognition for his work, most recently as a finalist in the 2026 Archibald Prize.
In 2019 he won the prestigious Lester Prize for portraiture. He is also a regular finalist in significant national prizes, including the Mosman Art Prize (2026, 2023), Doug Moran National Portrait Prize (2022, 2021, 2019), and Brisbane Portrait Prize where he was awarded the Packer’s Prize in 2022 and Highly Commended in 2021.
