Flourish is a collection of new photographic works by Emma Bass, exploring fragility, impermanence, and the cycle of life. With each of her sculptural botanical arrangements, Emma seeks to capture a distinct emotional resonance by highlighting the colours and forms of different blooms. Her compositions move between delicate, meditative monochromes and vibrant, energetic explosions of colour. She photographs them against a neutral studio backdrop, drawing our focus to the rich details within each image and inviting us to look closer.
Throughout the series, subtle narrative elements emerge. A praying mantis, a bumblebee and a budgie camouflage themselves amongst the flowers. In some works, fallen petals suggest the first signs of decay, and leaves shift from green to brown. In others, a caterpillar becomes a chrysalis and then a butterfly. Empty nests hint at new lives that have already flown beyond the frame. Through these evocative gestures, Emma offers a thoughtful celebration of the richness, complexity and transience of life.
