Lisa Black Jewellery is created with unusual stones, simple yet sophisticated cuts, and finely crafted handmade settings. Lisa is a native New Yorker with a background in environmental design and landscape architecture. Having studied at the State University of New York and Syracuse University in the U.S. and the National Art School for fine art and subsequently, horticulture in Sydney, Australia, she acquired a strong foundation for her creative expression.Lisa's wealth of experience in design, art and architecture thus inspired and motivated her work and artistic endeavours in the design of jewellery. An early appreciation of jewels and baubles began with sifting through her grandmother’s remnants of old jet, marcasite and rhinestone collected from days in and around New York's diamond district on the lower east side of Manhattan. Lisa would revive and renew some forgotten or broken treasure and create something beautiful and cherished. Lisa Black Jewellery was borne of Lisa’s love of the old and new and is fuelled by her travels to exotic and remote locations where many precious components are sourced. “When I am creating, all my education, my love for iconic tribal elements, and my passion for adornment infuse my work with life and presence.” This magnificent jewellery gives new life to these ancient remains from a disappeared world and is outstanding for its astute attention to detail, design, craftsmanship and deference to the past. Each handcrafted piece tells its own remarkable story and reveals the original splendour of these primal treasures. The elements are unique and special. Shell, bone, and fragments of necklaces once worn by Mayan princesses and Island Kings sit beside the finest rubies, pearls, and gemstones and are embellished with hand-wrought 22 karat gold. Lisa’s creations possess a magic blend of cultures – the primitive and the sublime, each item crafted for the modern woman trekking the globe with dignity, grace and power. Lisa currently lives in the Northern Rivers region of sub-tropical Australia.
