Alberto Ferretti is an Italian-born artist who moved to Sydney in 2014. Whilst in Italy he studied sculpting, but gravitated toward painting once living in Australia. The past ten years have been dedicated to oil painting.
Alberto explores his need to share feelings and emotions whilst connecting with the people surrounding him. Living in Australia since 2014, Alberto’s work explores new realms of perception and psychology. Loosing himself in order to find something or someone that he didn’t even know needed to exist.
Alberto invents stories and characters inspired from his personal perception of life, emotion, movement and space. He paints nature without painting landscapes, people without painting portraits.
He paints what is left once the person, the landscape, the animal, the spirit, time and space have all passed us by. The residue is almost superficially materialistic, even simple - a naive depiction of a dog or a chair. At times, it is the essentials, like a neck, or a hand. He paints fast and without hesitation.
Fascinated by all forms of art since childhood. Alberto has tried to express himself through music, photography, fashion and martial arts, and although he see's art everywhere (especially in nature), painting offers the most depth for his artistic expression. Ultimately, he paints because he has to.
'Keeping it simple’ Alberto predominantly uses acrylic and oil but sometimes adding plaster and impasto to make more textured works, somewhat like sculptures on canvas. He tells stories and introduces characters through colour, shape, movement, texture and tone. His works aim to represent life as simply as possible, hopefully tricking the viewer into embarking on their own journey to a deeper meaning.
